CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS

with SORELA

and FESTIVE FARE

Sorela, the popular Welsh folk a cappella close harmony sister trio, the daughters of Linda Healy of the Welsh folk group Plethyn, provided the entertainment at Chelmsford and District Welsh Society’s Christmas celebrations. They sang a bilingual , eclectic mix of traditional Welsh folk tunes, 90s pop hits, 50s classics and original works to the delight of the audience. A particular favourite was the traditional Plygain  carol Ar Gyfer Heddiw’r Bore. Plygain songs were traditionally sung in the Dorian mode, tonally different from English carols, in candle-lit chapels between 3 and 7 o’clock on Christmas morning, and include verses on the crucifixion and resurrection, as well as the nativity. At the conclusion, the Vice-president, Ivy Price, expressed the delight felt by everyone at the fabulous evening provided by the group, Lisa Angharad, Gwenno Elan and Mari Gwenllian. Mulled wine and mince pies were enjoyed at the beginning of the evening, and a feast of sandwiches, nibbles and cakes during the interval.
