Aberystwyth Gallery 2015

On 10 May, forty seven members and friends of the Chelmsford and District Welsh Society set out on a four day coach visit to the university town of Aberystwyth, “The Jewel in the Welsh Crown”, arranged by the President, Buddug Rowland Frank. A most interesting guided tour of the National Library of Wales, perched high above  the majestic Cardigan Bay, led by Cyril Evans, was followed by a coach ride to Aberaeron, with its  harbour and pastel shaded houses. A ride on the vintage narrow gauge steam train through the stunningly beautiful Rheidol valley, with red kites and buzzards soaring overhead, to Devil’s Bridge, with its 300 ft waterfalls was a particular highlight. This was followed by a tour and tea at the Grade 1 listed Nanteos Mansion. Each evening, following a delicious dinner, excellent entertainment was provided: on the first night by a fine local male choir, Meibion y Mynydd; on the second, Aberystwyth Silver Band, with its wide range of ages, and vocalists, provided an opportunity for Society members to play the big drum and to dance!: on the last evening a mixed voice choir, Cor Glannau Ystwyth, provided a fitting finale to a wonderful trip.
