SEPTEMBER 2019

 CROESO YN ÔL

President, Liz Armishaw                                  The J's Ambassador,  Andrea Wise

More than 60 members attended the first meeting, Croeso yn Ol, of the 2019/2020 season of the Society on 25 September. They were sad to hear that John Williams, who had been unable to attend for several years, had died. The President, Liz Armishaw, had chosen the J’s Hospice as her Charity for her year of office, and J’s ambassador Andrea Wise gave an excellent account of the history and future plans. It caters for young adults, with life limiting/threatening illnesses, between the age of 16, when they are deemed to be too old to attend a children’s hospice, and the age of 40; only 20 per cent of the funds are covered by the government, leaving a huge sum to be found from charitable giving. Liz then described, in greater detail, the Society’s events for the year, as shown on the published programme, and announced an additional Fund Raising/Charity Event, a coffee morning hosted by Buddug and Ray Rowland Frank at 10.30am on Saturday 8 February.
There followed a break for cheese and wine, and time for a chat. Afterwards there was a change from the published programme, when Mike Price was to have given a CD presentation of the recent Urdd, National and the Llangollen International Eisteddfodau, an eagerly anticipated September meeting tradition for several years. Since Mike was unwell Sina Williams stepped in and saved the day with a rugby quiz at very short notice. Almost everybody got the correct answer for the last question: who will win the world cup in Japan?
It was good to be back among friends and to sing with gusto Unwaith Eto’n Nghymru Annwyl at the commencement and Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau at the conclusion.
